Supporting Foster

Care Students

In recognition of the significant challenges faced by children in foster care, CASA of Lane County is committed to providing essential support to empower these young individuals on their educational journey. Our Academic Empowerment Advocates (AEA) program has been designed to make a tangible difference in the lives of foster care students by addressing their unique needs and aspirations.

Research shows children in foster care in Oregon have worse education outcomes than other at-risk youth, including homeless youth. This program, in partnership with the Eugene 4J School District, is an effort to provide additional support and advocacy, ensuring children have the best chance of success in school and for their future.

Program Goals

The primary objective of the Academic Empowerment Advocates program is to enhance the academic success of foster care students. Our mission is to elevate graduation rates, reduce the risk of incarceration and homelessness, and foster a brighter future for these resilient children.

By offering these comprehensive services, our AEA’s aim to create a supportive environment where foster students can thrive academically and overcome the obstacles they face.

  • Elevate Graduation Rates among foster care students, helping them build a stronger foundation for their future.

  • Reduce Risk of Incarceration and Homelessness among foster students to ensure their long-term well-being.

  • Enhance Student Well-Being by fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere within your school.

  • Create Comprehensive Support by collaborating with, AEA’s, teachers and staff.

  • Cultivate a Growth Mindset to significantly benefit your school's learning culture.

  • Promote Cultural Sensitivity ensuring that the support provided is respectful of identities and experiences.
